An update on coronavirus, COVID-19


We appreciate that at a time of heightened national uncertainty you may have a number of questions regarding the coronavirus and its potential impact on your health. As you will be aware from national reports the situation is evolving on a daily basis.

We wanted to share two important pieces of information which have been released from the Public Health England and the NHS to try and help answer some queries you may have.


Firstly, Public Health England released the following document yesterday providing guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK, thereby protecting older people and vulnerable adults. This document can be found at

We would encourage you to read this document to determine if you are in an at-risk group and follow the recommended advice if you are.


Many people are worried what to expect if they develop symptoms of coronavirus. The NHS provides clear guidance on the symptoms of coronavirus and what to do in the event you have symptoms. This is available at

If you are worried you have symptoms of coronavirus, please follow guidelines on this website and do not contact or attend the practice.

If you would normally be working but have had to self-isolate due to symptoms, please do not immediately request a sick note but discuss this with your employer. Current guidelines advice you should self-certificate for first 7 calendar days (this will not need a certificate from your GP).


We want to reassure you the practice is open. We have however made changes within the practice to help protect you, the patients, our staff and clinicians. From 12th March all routine or emergency appointments made at the practice will be via a telephone call from your clinician. If clinically necessary, the clinician will arrange for you to be seen face to face during this call.

We would also encourage you try e-consult which provides invaluable self-management advice but will also communicate with our clinical team if there is a need. This can be accessed on our website


In order to ensure there is fair supply of medication we will be unable to action requests for additional medication beyond your routine supply so please do not place additional requests for extra medication with us or your pharmacy.

In order to reduce unnecessary visits to the practice all prescriptions will now be sent electronically. Please ensure you have provided us with details of your nominated pharmacy. We ask that you do not chase prescriptions either on the phone or at reception. All requests will be handled within 2 clear working days excluding the day of request.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We have received a further update from NHS England regarding Coronavirus.  As before, members of the public have been advised NOT to attend GP surgeries, hospitals or pharmacies if they believe they have the Coronavirus but use NHS 111 Online for advice (or call 111 if you have no online access).

The latest information we have received is for people who have a new continuous cough AND/OR a high temperature (of 37.8 oC or higher) is to stay at home and self isolate.  There is now a testing centre set up in Poole - you are advised to contact them via 111 or the website and make an appointment for a test.  Results are received in around 48 hours.  If you live alone and have symptoms, however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started.  If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.  The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.   


In order not to expose patients unnecessarily to possible infection, we would advise those who already have an appointment booked to see a GP or Nurse remain at home and wait until the clinician calls you.  We will ring you first and then decided if you need to come to the surgery to be seen.  

Please DO NOT come to the surgery to collect prescriptions - ALL medication will be sent to your usual pharmacy electronically and you will be able to collect it directly from them or ask them to deliver if you are unable to go out.  If you need to make a request for medication, please do this via yor pharmacy or using an Online request or by emailing

Please be aware that GPs and other staff at the surgery may also need to self isolate if they show signs of the virus so we may need to cancel appointments with VERY little notice.  We really would appreciate everyone's co-operation during this crisis as all the staff at the Practice are working very hard to contain the spread of the infection in difficult circumstances.
